About this dish

Yakitori are traditional Japanese skewers, usually grilled over a charcoal barbecue. Although "tori" means chicken, the term "yakitori" can refer to a variety of ingredients threaded onto sticks, such as chicken, vegetables, and offal. These skewers are often basted with a sweet-savory sauce made of soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar, which caramelizes during grilling. They can be savory or sweet, depending on the marinade or sauce used. The variety of ingredients and chicken parts used, such as thighs, skin, liver, or hearts, offers a range of textures and flavors. Served in "izakaya" (Japanese bars) and at festivals, yakitori are a popular snack enjoyed with a cold drink, reflecting the simplicity and richness of Japanese cuisine.
