About this dish
Yakisoba is a popular Japanese stir-fried noodle dish. Although "soba" usually refers to buckwheat noodles, yakisoba actually uses Chinese-style wheat noodles. These noodles are stir-fried over high heat with vegetables such as carrots, cabbage, and onions, and often with proteins like pork, chicken, or shrimp. Everything is seasoned with yakisoba sauce, a sweet and savory condiment made from soy sauce, mirin, and Worcestershire sauce. Once served, the dish is usually topped with dried bonito flakes, seaweed powder, pickled red ginger, and sometimes Japanese mayonnaise. Reminiscent of Chinese chow mein, yakisoba is a common street food at Japanese festivals and is also popular at home. It's a simple, quick, and deliciously flavorful dish.
