About this dish
Salsa de rocoto is a spicy sauce typical of Peruvian cuisine, made mainly from the rocoto pepper, a distinctive bright red chili that resembles a small bell pepper but has an intense heat. The sauce's texture can vary, from thin to thick, depending on preference. Traditionally, salsa de rocoto combines the finely chopped chili with ingredients like onion, garlic, lime juice, chopped cilantro, salt, and sometimes vegetable oil for a smoother texture. This sauce is an essential condiment for many Peruvian dishes, adding heat and spicy flavor that pairs perfectly with grilled meats, fish, and seafood. Although deeply rooted in Peruvian tradition, salsa de rocoto has also won over palates around the world, bringing a spicy, exotic touch to any meal.
