About this dish
Banana bread is a soft, flavorful cake originating from the United States. Its popularity exploded in the 1930s, largely thanks to the spread of baking powder and baking soda, which help this pastry rise well. Easy to make, banana bread is made with mashed ripe bananas, flour, sugar, butter, eggs, and flavorings like vanilla and cinnamon. The natural sweetness of ripe bananas reduces the need to add much sugar, making this bread a relatively healthy option for breakfast or a snack. Its rich taste and tender texture make it a family favorite, often made to use up overripe bananas and avoid food waste. Delicious plain, it can also be topped with nuts, chocolate chips, or dried fruit for extra variety.
