About this dish
Coleslaw, also known as cabbage salad, is a refreshing mix mainly made of finely shredded cabbage and grated carrots. These vegetables are mixed with a creamy sauce made of mayonnaise, vinegar, and sugar. Some variations may include mustard, yogurt, or buttermilk to add depth to the sauce. Other ingredients, such as red onions, bell peppers, or celery seeds, can be added for more flavor or crunch. Traditionally served as a side dish in American cuisine, coleslaw is a favorite at barbecues, picnics, and family meals. Its tangy, sweet flavors pair perfectly with grilled dishes and smoked meats. The contrast between the crunch of the fresh vegetables and the smoothness of the creamy sauce makes coleslaw a salad enjoyed by everyone.
