About this dish
Salsa verde is a cold sauce of Mexican origin, famous for its bright color and refreshing taste. It's mainly made of green tomatillos, small fruits that resemble green tomatoes but with a tangier taste and firmer texture. These tomatillos are often grilled or boiled to soften their acidity before being blended with ingredients like green chilies, fresh cilantro, onion, garlic, and lime juice. The result is a tangy, herbaceous sauce, with a touch of acidity and a slight bitterness. Salsa verde can be used as a dip for tortilla chips, a topping for tacos and enchiladas, or even as a marinade for meats. Its freshness and versatility make it a staple of Mexican cuisine, appreciated for adding a vibrant, spicy dimension to many dishes.
