About this dish

The tuna melt sandwich is an American classic, loved for its delicious combination of tuna, melted cheese, and toasted bread. Originating in the United States, this sandwich first appeared in the 1950s, a period when grilled sandwiches and tuna salads were popular. The tuna melt usually consists of canned tuna mixed with mayonnaise, onions, and pickles, then topped with slices of mozzarella or cheddar. This mixture is then placed between two slices of bread, often sourdough, before being grilled in butter until the bread is golden and crispy and the cheese is melted and creamy. The result is a warm, comforting, and flavorful sandwich, perfect for a quick lunch or dinner.
